Employment Opportunities at Camp Colton
Fall Season ~ August to October

Counselors:
|
This part time seasonal position runs from approximately August 1 through October 29 in the Fall and from May 1 through May 30th in the Spring. You must be able to attend camp from 4pm until breakfast (about 8am) and perform the following responsibilities:
*Group safety.
*Providing leadership.
*Being outside with the kids during free time. Playing is fine - at least be present among
them.
*Leading, supervising, and participating in afternoon and evening activities.
*Assisting presenters.
*Serving meals, seating students for meals, setting up for meals.
*Supervising KP (kitchen patrol). Two staff members required (one in lodge, one outside).
*Supervising showers.
*Supervising preparation for bedtime:
-Supervising bathrooms, making sure kids brush teeth, get drinks, etc.
-Checking sleeping bags, socks, presence, and that kids are prepared for a night in
the elements.
-Explaining and reviewing nighttime rules.
-Calling for lights out.
*Sleeping in tent 4 and being on call for nighttime issues or emergencies.
*Assisting wake-up in the morning (7am). A staff person should walk through every tent
after morning bells to check and hurry stragglers.
*Participate in staff meetings, debriefings and evaluations.
*Perform other duties as assigned. (Errands, town runs, special need students)
*All Camp staff needs to be prepared to perform their duties in any and all weather conditions.

| ~ Teachers |
This part time seasonal position runs from approximately August 1 through October 29 in the Fall and from May 1 through May 30th in the Spring. You must be able to attend camp from 8am to 4pm and assume the following responsibilities:
*Group safety.
*Developing curriculum.
*Providing leadership.
*Being prepared to teach any of the 6 curriculum classes.
*Helping with KP after breakfast and lunch.
*Sitting and eating with campers during lunch.
*Helping to set up, serve and supervise meals.
*Having a general presence at all times.
*Transportation of students.
*Mondays:
-Opening tents
-Unloading food truck
-Greeting campers, teachers and other staff.
-Directing campers as they move into tents
-Creating tent, teaching and master lists.
-Aid in other chores that need to be done.
*Fridays:
-Supervising campers as they pack their belongings
-Inspecting tents and directing campers as they get their tents cleaned.
-Supervise in student walk through and clean up of Camp.
-Participate in staff/student volleyball game.
-Clean lodge and Bathrooms.
-Aid in accomplishing other chores that need to be done.
-Participate in staff meetings, debriefings and evaluations.
*Perform other duties as assigned.
*All Camp staff needs to be prepared to perform their duties in any and all weather conditions.

| ~ Cooks |
This part time seasonal position runs from approximately August 1 through October 29 in the Fall and from May 1 through May 30th in the Spring. A great opportunity for a hardworking, dedicated person at Camp Colton, the Flagstaff Unified School District’s famed residential outdoor and environmental education site. The job entails ordering, preparing and serving food for approximately 100 people/day (3 meals a day), as well as the associated clean–up. Ability to cook on a wood stove in a rustic setting is a requirement. The ability to get along with a wide variety of adults and children for extended periods of time is also a requirement. Some heavy lifting is required. The job is approximately 12 hours a day. Experience with children, and cooking on a wood stove is necessary.
-Good cook
-Must have CCDHS Food Handlers Permit
-No criminal background (background check required)
-Experience w/ children
-Able to cook on a wood stove for 100 people, three meals/day
-Excellent physical health

| ~ Medics |
This part time seasonal position runs from approximately August 1 through October 29 in the Fall and from May 1 through May 30th in the Spring. The position is available in 12 hour shifts (approximately 7am – 7pm, 7pm – 7am), but a medic that can be present 24 hours a day is most preferable for Camp’s needs. The Camp medic is responsible for the health of all campers at Camp Colton and provides emergency medical care within the parameters of certification (minimum EMT-basic), and is the authorized designee responsible for administration of daily medications. Additionally the medic must perform some maintenance and miscellaneous duties. Typical responsibilities of the Camp medic includes among the following:
* Administers medications as instructed on student medical forms.
* Group safety.
* Leadership.
* Receives paperwork and medical forms on every student from teachers.
* Documents any and all medical activity.
* Provides any necessary medical attention within the parameters of certification.
* Triage.
* Childcare and supervision.
* General maintenance of facilities and equipment.
* Miscellaneous camp duties, chores and cleaning.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
* All Camp staff needs to be prepared to perform their duties in any and all weather conditions.
